Leo Woodall, Dustin Hoffman, Havana Rose Liu, Jean Reno
Headlined by Dustin Hoffman and Leo Woodall (The White Lotus, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy), Oscar-winning documentarian Daniel Roher’s (Navalny) narrative debut moves cleverly between low-key thriller and winsome rom-com. With a warm, sly script, jazzy original music by Marius de Vries, and charismatic performances from Hoffman, Woodall and Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms), Tuner is a playful and satisfying watch that takes us into the world of a very specific profession.
Veteran piano tuner Harry Horowitz (Hoffman) is losing his hearing, while his shy apprentice Niki’s (Woodall) is incredibly sensitive (he has a condition called hyperacusis, which obliges him to wear earplugs at all times). Together, they’re the best tuners in town. But when Niki’s skills are called on in unusual circumstances, he is exposed to a criminal but lucrative potential side trade – shortly before he meets and begins to fall for music composition student Ruthie (Liu).
