Deeply troubled after learning of the suicide of a patient, psychoanalyst Lilian Steiner (Foster) suspects foul play. Enlisting the help of her ex-husband-cum-sleuthing partner (Auteuil), their chaotic investigation takes them to unexpected places, causing Lillian to unravel (and sending her to her own analyst, played in cameo by celebrated documentarian Frederick Wiseman). Drawing on Alfred Hitchcock and Brian De Palma, Rebecca Zlotowski’s (An Easy Girl, Other People’s Children) sleek, campy caper is as full of charm as its spiky protagonist, drawn with intense focus by Foster.
