Northwest Vision and Media, Salford

This workshop is for staff of small to medium sized cinemas, film festivals and film societies, or those running film nights who need to generate more funds for their organisation and are hoping to:

  • Develop a proper fundraising strategy for their organisation
  • Find out what funds they should consider applying to
  • Understand what funders are looking for
  • Discover how to “sell” their organisation and its vision
  • Learn how to write a winning application
  • Get practical tips on pitching to corporate sponsors
  • Understand the importance of building and maintaining relationships with funders/sponsors
  • Find out the trusts and foundations to know about

There will be an opportunity to discuss individual projects during the day. Please bring along a funding application that you would like advice on; information on a project that you would like to find funding for; or a business plan that you are working on.

The course will be led by Catharine Des Forges, Director of the Independent Cinema Office. As well as setting up and raising a wide range of funding for the ICO, Catharine has assessed lottery applications for the Arts Council and Film London. She has many years’ experience of film programming and advising cinemas and film festivals on their strategy, and has taught on numerous training courses in the UK and abroad. Catharine will be joined by guest speakers who have successfully raised money for their festival or venue.

Informative and inspirational … I came back with lots of ideas to try out!
