This month we’re delighted to welcome Gini Godwin, who will be joining us online to discuss her career journey to becoming a production designer, her experience working on films such as Blue Story, Boxing Day and Then Barbara Met Alan, and her advice for young people wanting to work in production design.

Gini will be in conversation with Jackie du Bled, a production designer and art creative from Brighton who has worked on music videos, feature films, shorts, and is currently in production on Love In Vein — a coming-of-age vampire romance, which is her second feature film as production designer.

About BFI Film Academy Labs

BFI Film Academy Labs are online events for 16-25 year olds to gain industry insight and get professional advice and support to develop their own film programming and filmmaking practices. Programmed by the Young Film Programmers’ Network (South East) they are delivered as practical masterclasses, workshops and networking sessions.

This session will be live-captioned, we will provide instructions on how to access the captions at the beginning of the event. If you have any questions about the event please get in touch at: info@independentcinemaoffice.org.uk

You can watch recordings of some of our previous Labs on the ICO YouTube channel.

Gini Godwin

Production Designer (Blue Story, Boxing Day)

Gini trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama when she was 18 but, having nearly been thrown out at the end of each term, realised acting was not for her. She spent the majority of her 20s pursuing other goals, and completed an MA in film at Central Saint Martins. It wasn't until she was 29 that two friends asked her to work on their first feature film and she got her start as a production designer.
