Sweden - UK Work Placement Exchange

08/02/2013 - 10/06/2013

Would you like to share ideas and good practice with Swedish cinema and film festival professionals?

Could your organisation host a Swedish cinema or film festival professional for a 2 – 8 week work placement or job shadowing?

The Independent Cinema Office is working with Biografcentralen (Cinema Centre, Sweden) on a work placement exchange project between independent cinemas and film festivals in Sweden and the UK. The project is funded by the Leonardo da Vinci programme of the European Union.

In the first round of the project, 7 – 10 experienced professionals working in independent cinemas and film festivals in Sweden will be selected to undertake work placements and job shadowing in the UK. The first round of the exchange will take place between February and June 2013, with placements lasting 2 – 8 weeks depending on the availability of hosts and participants.

Dates

08/02/2013 - 10/06/2013

The project will provide an invaluable opportunity for exhibitors to build international relations and to exchange ideas and best practice internationally.

The Swedish professionals who have applied for placements include film festival directors, cinema managers, head technicians, programmers and marketing executives. They are interested in developing knowledge and new ideas in topics such as marketing, increasing and broadening audiences, strategic development, funding and sponsorship, programming, events and festival planning. They all speak fluent English.

Host organisations should create an enriching learning experience for their Swedish visitor. We would encourage placements to include:

  • a defined project (eg. curate a programme, organise a workshop, work on marketing strategy…) rather than simply generic tasks;
  • and/or job shadowing managers or senior staff;
  • check-in meetings with a named contact at the organisation for induction, monitoring progress and mentoring.

There are no costs involved in hosting a placement. Leonardo da Vinci programme participants receive expenses for travel, accommodation and food, and are not entitled to wages for their work placement.

A further round of Sweden-to-UK placements will take place in Autumn/Winter 2013-14. We also hope to arrange a reciprocal exchange of UK exhibitors to Sweden in future years.

Participants will be selected according to their experience and motivation, and paired with organisations matching their interests. Host organisations will have the opportunity to discuss the placement with a potential participant before committing (eg. via a Skype call). We hope to match up hosts and participants in late December / early January.
