Trustees & Vice Chair

Chapter

Cardiff

Salary: Voluntary

Chapter are looking for Trustees and a Vice Chair for their board.

About Chapter

Chapter is an international centre for contemporary arts and culture, rooted in Cardiff. For more than 50 years, it’s been a catalyst for creativity and critical thinking, supporting artists and audiences to thrive and take risks. This is an exciting moment to join our organisation as we take some time to refocus.

Our Board of Trustees is critical in developing our mission and working with the executive team to oversee the vision for the organisation. They also act as ambassadors for the organisation locally, nationally and internationally.

We’re looking for dynamic individuals who can bring fresh perspectives and insight through their lived and professional experiences. Our Trustees are a vital part of our organisation and offer critical insights that help us to ask and answer questions.

You’ll be passionate about art and artists, building community cohesion, and believe that care and equity should sit at the heart of everything that we do. We’re looking for people who can help us continue to extend our reach, influence and impact.

You don’t have to have previous experience as a Trustee or be from an arts or culture background. We’re looking for enthusiastic and committed people who believe in the intrinsic value of arts and culture, and who can apply their skills and experience for the benefit of our organisation and our communities.

The Board

The Board of Trustees has between 9 and 12 members, plus 2 observers. All Trustees serve in an individual capacity. They have a duty to support the work of Chapter as a whole, rather than to act as representatives of a particular interest group. All members are unpaid, non-executive Directors of the Limited Company. Though these positions are voluntary, travel expenses will be reimbursed if you travel from outside of Cardiff.

We also recognise that some people face additional barriers and we’re happy to support reasonable expenses such as childcare. We will also provide access to work support where required and will discuss needs with you should you take up a role as Trustee.

Term of Office

The term of office is three years. Trustees can stand for re-election to the Board for an additional one term.

What we’re looking for:

  • Reliable with sound judgement.
  • Creative and strategic thinker.
  • Ability to collaborate and work as part of a team.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to build trust and respect.
  • Understanding and acceptance of a Trustee’s legal duties and responsibilities.
  • Willingness to invest the necessary time and effort required.
  • Ability to communicate in Welsh is advantageous
