Trustees

Regional Screen Scotland

Salary: Unpaid

Regional Screen Scotland is a charity registered with OSCR and currently in receipt of Regular Funding from Creative Scotland. Our aim is to enable more people in more places to share great screen experiences. We do this in two ways: delivery, through operating the Screen Machine mobile cinema, touring throughout the Highlands and Islands, and development, through working with partners across Scotland to assist the development of new screening venues, from DVD-based film clubs to multi-screen community cinemas. We believe passionately in the ability of cinema to strengthen and transform communities.

Board members are responsible for setting the overall strategy and budget for the organisation, monitoring performance, and employing the staff of six, and the company is now looking to increase the mix of skills and experience available to the Board, which currently has eight members.

We are looking for new Trustees who can bring to the Board any combination of the following particular skills and experience (in no particular order):

  • Social enterprise
  • Working with young people
  • Fundraising
  • Company and contract law
  • Venue management

A personal or professional interest in film and cinema is important but not essential: equally important is an interest or involvement in community support and development.

The RSS staff structure consists of: a CEO and three operational staff (all part-time), based in our Edinburgh office, and two fulltime Operators who deliver the Screen Machine service on a two-weekly rota.

Board meetings are held 4-5 times a year in Edinburgh. Meetings are normally held on weekdays at 13.00 and last about two hours. Trustees are also invited to participate in sub-committees and in joint working groups with staff members, as the company’s circumstances require. The Trustees do not receive remuneration for the role, however expenses incurred in carrying out Board duties will be fully reimbursed.

Applications would be particularly welcomed from segments of the population currently under-represented on RSS’s board, such as women, people from black and minority ethnic communities, people with disabilities, and people aged under 40.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please make initial contact with RSS’s CEO, Robert Livingston by emailing robert@regionalscreenscotland.org to arrange an initial phone conversation. If you’d then like to take matters further, you’ll be sent a copy of our current business plan asked to submit a CV and a letter explaining your interest in the work of RSS. We’ll then arrange an informal phone interview, either with the CEO or with the Chair of the Board, Paul Harris. If that goes well, you will then be invited to attend a Board meeting as an observer, with no commitments on either side.

You can read more about Regional Screen Scotland’s work at our two websites, http://www.regionalscreenscotland.org and http://www.screenmachine.co.uk though please note the first is currently under reconstruction.
