Picturehouse Central is looking for a Technical Manager to join their team.
About Picturehouse Central
Picturehouse Central is a 1000 seat, 7 screen cinema on Shaftesbury Avenue near Piccadilly Circus.
In addition to a diverse programme of features, ranging from quality blockbusters to independent, classic, foreign-language and art-house, films, Picturehouse Central includes a core programming strand dedicated to championing documentaries. The cinema also shows live HD broadcasts, such as the New York Metropolitan Opera, Bolshoi Ballet, theatre productions such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre Live, also art exhibitions and filmmaker Q&As and even Sporting events. We are host to a large and varied array of private hires from 20 people workshops to week long, full building, and take overs. We are also home to many film festivals including London Korean Film Festival, Doc’N’Roll and Sundance London, We also host buyer and marketing screenings for both the Film and TV industries.

Vacancy
The successful candidate should have at least 2 years’ experience as a Projectionist working in a Digital Cinema operation which has rapid turnover of content.
Picturehouse Central is a major West End venue for festivals and live events, such as Conferencing, Director/Panel Q&As, Multimedia events and press and industry screenings – you should be knowledgeable enough to be able to providing technical support for these, including working with non-cinema AV sources as well as sound and lighting desks and be comfortable with networking and wireless systems. As well as working with 3rd party engineers and contractors.
Experience in the preparation, presentation and dispatch of 35mm Film is essential and experience in running 70mm film would be useful, as we regularly do full programmed runs of both gauges.
Please note there is a requirement to work 40 hours over any of the seven days with regular work at evenings and weekends and opportunities to work additional hours as required.
We offer an hourly rate of £11.79 for this role.

Job purpose
To prepare and show films and other content throughout the cinema and to provide technical support to the cinema management and event teams. To manage the technical teams day to day duties and to deputise for the Head Technical Manager in their absence. To liaise with 3rd party contractors and engineers. To meet with clients and manage the dairy of upcoming events.
Main duties
- Preparing films and other content for screenings in a timely manner, with due care to avoid damaging material; securing films and other content to avoid opportunities for film theft and preparing films and other content correctly for onwards transport.
- Showing films and other content in accordance with the cinema’s timetable and to the best possible standards of presentation.
- Maintaining and caring for projection, sound and other audio visual equipment to ensure that it is operating safely and to its optimum technical capacity.
- Undertaking general cinema maintenance tasks including changing light bulbs, ad hoc repairs and front-line maintenance to building systems.
- Alerting the Head Technician (or equivalent) and/or Company Engineer about projection technical issues that you are unable to resolve and the General Manager and/or Company Maintenance Manager about building maintenance issues that you are unable to resolve.
- Providing a professional service to third party hirers of the venue.
- Maintaining your workspace in a clean, tidy and safe manner at all times.
- Liaising sufficiently with the front of house and management teams to enable the cinema to operate efficiently.
- Undertaking any other duties which may be reasonably requested of you by the Head Technician (or equivalent) or Management for the effective functioning of the cinema and projection room.

Person specification
Essential experience
- Ability to complete Health and Safety training
- Work with both Windows and Apple based computers
- Base understanding of Networking and wireless systems
- Experience in 35mm projection
- Experience in Digital projection
- Event based equipment, lighting and sound desks, HDMI extenders, etc…
- Minimum 2 years working as a Projectionist
Desirable Experience/Qualifications
- Current First Aid at Work or Appointed Persons qualification
- Digital Cinema training course
- 16mm / 70mm projection
- Health and Safety training / awareness
- Carrying out Risk Assessments
- Ladder training
- Building Maintenance
- Working patch panels

Special aptitudes (eg oral or written skills, manual dexterity)
