Special Collections Coordinator

Salary: £24,996 - £28,728 per annum

The BFI is looking for a Special Collections Coordinator to join their Curatorial team on a part time basis who will manage research access and assist curators in acquiring and researching the BFI’s special collections.

You will have demonstrable experience working in an archive, library or museum environment, with experience in a customer-facing role including the management of research enquiries and appointments.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to making the world-class collections of the BFI National Archive accessible to a range of users.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To deal with written, telephone and in-person enquiries regarding all parts of Special Collections.
  • To oversee all research access requests and refer other requests to appropriate curators or departments.
  • To manage the systems for booking research appointments, assist and supervise researchers, and coordinate the punctual retrieval and return of research materials to and from the Special Collections paper store at Berkhamsted.
  • To add, update and amend CID (Collections Information Database) data.
  • To support colleagues to prepare paper material for research appointments.
  • To support digitisation work for preservation and access.
Skills & Experience:
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, or with equivalent professional work experience.
  • Demonstrable and sustained experience of working in an archive, library or museum environment, with experience in a customer-facing role including the management of research enquiries and appointments.
  • Knowledge and experience of using automated archive systems or information databases.
