Projects Officer & Short Film Programmer

Salary: €26,000 pro rata

Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival is seeking a Projects Officer & Short Film Programmer for the 2020 festival, which will take place 26th February to 8th March 2020.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a number of key projects and programme strands as well co-ordinating on film screenings and premieres, panels, workshops and other programs. Additionally, the Short Film Programmer will develop and implement the artistic focus of short films in consultation with the Festival Director. This is a full time paid position that will start September 1st and will end April 1st.

Full-time, fixed term contract, 8 months.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):


  • Develop and deliver a variety of programme strands and audience projects for the 2020 Film Festival
  • Devise and secure panels, comprised of actors, directors, etc. on intriguing topics for our audiences
  • Develop programmes which nurture and expand relationships with core supporters such as Season Ticket Holders, Volunteers, Hosts and other Festival Friends, building on current festival audience development plans with a particular focus on new audiences, older age groups and families/young people.
  • Co-ordinate and run DIFF’s Outreach Programme Picture House
  • Input programme into DIFF’s festival management software filmchief and maintain filmmaker database
  • Write copy on screenings, strands, panels, workshops and Q&As for the Festival Programme
  • Help to produce Festival Programme and other print and online collateral
  • Work with Programming interns, Print Traffic Co-ordinator and other staff
  • Help with administrative tasks related to the Festival


  • Secure and organise short films for the Dublin International Film Festival
  • Co-ordinate jurors and selection panels.
  • Help run and promote DIFF’s Call for Entry to the film community around the world
  • Help to organize and oversee a preselection committee for short films.
  • Manage DIFF’s submissions process through Film Freeway including tracking submissions, and notifying selection and declined film submissions
  • Develop criteria for film selection and create an online survey for pre-screeners to evaluate films
  • Establish selection timeline and track programming budget
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key short film community professionals, in Dublin, Ireland and throughout the world
  • At times, offer content for DIFF blog, social media, and website


  • Experience as a Film Festival Programmer or Assistant/Associate Programmer
  • Track record of managing multiple projects and budgets effectively
  • Familiar with film and video formats and film production
  • Able to work independently, efficiently and under deadline pressure, with both artistic and organisational skills, and excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to build strong working relationships
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Google Drive, Microsoft Office and Adobe packages
  • Experience using event management software such as FilmChief and social media platforms is desirable
