SET Film Festival is looking for volunteers to support the 2025 edition of the festival as film pre-selectors.

Working closely with the curatorial team, pre-selectors will view and evaluate submitted short films (under 30 minutes in length) to help shape this year’s programme.

This is a remote role with the option to attend in-person programming meetings at SET Social in London, taking place in two phases between late June and early August. Volunteers will be credited in the printed programme and receive a free pass to the festival.

Role responsibilities

• Watch and assess submitted short films using a shared viewing platform and spreadsheet
• Provide clear, thoughtful written notes on each film
• Flag selected works for further discussion by the core curatorial team
• Attend one online or in-person feedback session

Person specifications

• An interest in experimental, independent or artist-led film practices
• A careful and considered approach to viewing and evaluation
• The ability to commit around 10 hours between June and July, and 5 additional hours in August
• No prior curatorial experience is necessary – this opportunity is open to those looking to develop their skills or gain insight into programming practices

About SET Film Festival

Founded in 2023, SET Film Festival is an alternative grassroots festival of contemporary, artist, and archival film. Screenings take place every November at SET Social, an arts and social club located just off Rye Lane in Peckham.

Each year, the programme includes five curated short film screenings, one feature film, and a free archival film night focused on local histories. Screenings are followed by Q&As with filmmakers.

This year’s edition will run from 6 November to 4 December 2025 at SET Social.
