The BFI is looking for a Policy Advisor to join the BFI’s Policy & Public Affairs team on a fixed-term basis for 10 months.
The Policy Advisor will work to provide policy advice to Government, UK Parliament and industry stakeholders that helps to deliver the BFI’s ambitions as set out in our ten-year strategy, Screen Culture 2033. This role will have a particular focus on delivering against our strategic aim to grow the cultural and economic impact of the UK’s screen industries.

Role responsibilities
- To work with colleagues to support the BFI’s work as the UK National Lottery distributor for film. This includes around the launch of the BFI’s next National Lottery Funding Plan 2023-2029 and preparations for its implementation from April 2026, as well as early strategic work on its successor plan. This will include close communication with government and industry contacts.
- To compile and summarise evidence and BFI positions for briefings and policy documents.
- To pull together and analyse evidence to respond to government requests, consultations and select committee calls for evidence as they relate to the UK screen sector.
- To support the policy team to develop and provide policy advice on a range of issues key to the cultural and economic impact of the screen sectors
Person specifications
- Minimum 2 years’ experience of working in a policy making, government or regulatory environment or equivalent.
- An understanding of the UK screen sector and the wider cultural and creative industries.
- A proven track record of promoting and supporting diversity and inclusion.
- Demonstrable experience of building and delivering key evidence-based policy positions
