Part Time Cinema Operations Assistant

Chichester Cinema at New Park

Chichester

Salary: £11.55 per hour

Chichester Cinema are looking for a Part Time Cinema Operations Assistant.

Chichester Cinema is an independent cinema showing the best films from all over the world. We operate in the heart of Chichester with a loyal and enthusiastic clientele. We are committed to supporting the young; improving the wellbeing of the vulnerable; and providing fulfilling employment and volunteering opportunities – always keeping the art and enjoyment of film front and centre.

The required position is for a part-time joint Box Office and Projection assistant. This will be over 2-3 days per week, plus covering shifts in both departments for sickness and annual leave. During the August Film Festival, you will also be required to do an increased number of shifts.

BOX OFFICE OVERVIEW

Working in the Box Office is a vital role at the heart of the cinema. As first point of contact you must be personable, polite and helpful. The role can be surprisingly varied; you will converse with customers and volunteers, sell tickets and deal with a variety of issues. The applicant should have an interest in film, and at least two years’ experience in a customer-facing/retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Using our ‘Oscar’ software you will be dealing with all aspects of ticketing; from sales to refunds & exchanges. This can be in person, on the phone or via email.
  • Other duties include refreshing posters, selling vouchers and memberships and answering questions about the schedule or providing directions and recommendations. Some general office admin will also be required.
  • Effectively, you will be an important link between the cinema and our volunteers, the vital cogs in the cinema’s operations.
  • You will also be responsible for cashing up and locking the building at night.

PROJECTION OVERVIEW

The Projection role is core to cinema exhibition. Without a film on the screen, nothing else matters. Computer knowledge is beneficial to this role, as is a bit of technical know-how, but most important is a willingness to learn as full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Using the Projection software, you will ingest films onto the server, create show playlists, play films and control the lighting and masking curtains in the auditorium.
  • You will also play live streams of Performance Events (operas etc), as well as doing the required tests before the events, and the recording of events when required.
  • Any screenings involving microphones and lighting will also need to be overseen by the applicant. You will also need to prepare and play films in the cinema’s Studio and 13-seat Picture Palace when required. Again, full training will be provided.

CANDIDATES

This neighbourhood cinema in the heart of Chichester thrives on the helpful, collaborative, can-do attitude of both staff and volunteers.

You will need to be self-motivated, able to use your initiative, have a willingness to learn and muck-in, be calm under pressure and be confident enough to handle a variety of situations associated with a public building. Often working alone, you will need a high degree of independence. Some experience of working within a customer service environment is highly desirable.

Being comfortable with technical equipment/computers will be desirable for the projection part of the role together with Word, Excel and Email skills.

HOURS

Box Office hours are generally 11 – 5pm or 5 to the end of the last film, generally between 10pm -11pm. One weekend day plus flexibility to cover other shifts is required.

Any students applying, please bear in mind that the role functions throughout the year. Therefore, it is not a suitable post for anyone returning home in the holidays.

All candidates must be available in August for the Film Festival.
