The Lexi Cinema is seeking an experienced, creative and enthusiastic marketing professional with a passion for audience development and a commercial focus on driving venue hire and increasing occupancy.

This position will require you to work closely with the Cinema and Programme Director, to promote our film programme, support audience development and drive our hires business and membership scheme. This is a hands-on role covering everything from writing our weekly newsletter to managing our website and social media channels, answering press queries and representing us at industry events. 

You will be responsible for developing and delivering the marketing strategy for our film programme, delivering innovative campaigns for a varied slate of film events. You will manage the Lexi marketing budget and have great communication skills which you can apply to all facets of the role. You’ll have a good working knowledge of the indie cinema sector and be keen to learn. 

All Lexi core team staff are also trained in digital projection and run 2 – 3 evening shifts a month as duty managers, as required.

Job Description

Contract: Full-time Permanent , 40 hours per week/Includes some evening & weekend work

Reporting to: Cinema and Programme Director

This is a key role within a small, hardworking and supportive team. The Lexi is the UK’s first social enterprise cinema and donates 100% of all profits to charity. We’re a totally independent neighbourhood picture palace, and our front of house is run by an army of volunteers from all walks of life. We run a range of outreach and community projects, including weekly carers and babies’ screenings, discussion groups for seniors, accessible screenings for the hard of hearing, and a women-only refugee film club. Our main features programme features everything from the latest blockbusters to indie hits, world cinema and documentary.

Marketing Manager role:

1. You will be responsible for developing and delivering the marketing strategy for our film programme and the Lexi Hub outreach 

2. You will deliver innovative campaigns for a varied slate of film events. 

3. Ability to work within our marketing budget 

4. Great verbal and written communication skills which you can apply to all facets of the role. 

5. You love film and have a working knowledge of the indie cinema sector 

6. You will promote hire of the Lexi and the Lexi Hub to both corporate and community clients – this will be a KPI 

7. You will manage and develop our membership strategy – this will be a KPI 

8. You will be responsible for the Lexi website 

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
  • To develop and manage the Lexi website, writing copy, sourcing images and getting our films on sale online (with the Cinema Administrator)
  • Writing our weekly newsletter – promoting our programme, venue hire and Hub activities
  • Comms calendar managed to utilise our digital platforms in the best possible wayDigital marketing – you will develop, deliver, create content for and report on our digital platforms
  • To promote hire of the Lexi Cinema (a key revenue stream) to community groups and corporate clients as well as private hire for birthdays, weddings, etc.
  • Working with the Cinema Director to develop sponsorship opportunities
  • To promote Lexi membership and engage our membership base via our monthly members newsletter
  • To develop and manage creative materials for the Lexi – print and digital assets
  • To build relationships with distribution marketing teams to drive marketing support.
  • To represent the Lexi at key industry events as required (Film London meetings, ICO Screening Days)
  • To liaise with Pagefield PR, our pro-bono PR company, and to keep up to date press clippings.
  • You will also be trained to Duty Manager level and run 2 to 3 evening shifts per month as required. Everyone at the Lexi is also expected to staff on the box office or kiosk as needed, for example if we have a busy show or a volunteer is running late.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities within the range of the salary grade

Personal Specification

Education / qualifications

  • Extensive experience in this field
  • Evidence of continual professional development

Experience

  • Experience of devising and delivering creative marketing material for campaigns and promotions resulting in an increase footfall and revenue generation.
  • Experience of UX and digital
  • Proven marketing experience across print, e-marketing, and social media
  • Experience in building relationships with key clients, communities and stakeholders at all levels of an organisation
  • Venue based marketing role – supporting venue hire in addition to programming
  • Experience of devising effective marketing and communications strategies for new audiences
  • Experience of project management – for example website development
  • Track record of effective audience development projects – we would like you to present an example of a successful audience development project which you’ve been involved in delivering, at interview

Skills, knowledge and attributes

  • Love of cinema and film
  • The ability to plan, manage projects and prioritise conflicting deadlines and to deal effectively with changing requirements
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Strong numeracy skills and ability to work to budget, identify savings and provide value for money
  • Ability to work collaboratively and as an effective team player
  • Be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook
  • Have a sound understanding of general marketing and business development principles
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge skills & Ability to use Illustrator
  • Video editing for social media assets (essential)
  • People skills: friendly, welcoming, positive attitude
