Light After Dark: Opportunity for Exhibitors - Invitation from Live Cinema UK

Live Cinema UK

Salary: Entrance fee paid & contribution to travel, accommodation

Live Cinema UK would like to invite exhibition venues to participate in three days of immersive events, talks and workshops through which to investigate the creative possibilities and the technical challenges of live, hybridised, and specialised events.

The Institute for Screen Industries Research at the University of Nottingham and Live Cinema UK are collaborating on the delivery of this bespoke adventure in creative and critical thinking about the future possibilities of cinematic exhibition in the post-COVID context.

The activity will take place over the weekend of the Light After Dark Festival which is being convened by Nottingham Contemporary (25 – 27 March). Entrance to the full programme of events will be prepaid and Live Cinema UK will make a contribution to travel and one night accommodation.

A curriculum of development workshops will take place over the course of the weekend that will provide an opportunity to reflect on the experiences from the perspective of your own curatorial, programming, or creative practice.

  • Saturday 26 March: FACADES (pm), NIGHT AT THE END OF THE WORLD (evening)

Light after Dark

Delivered in partnership between Nottingham Contemporary, Broadway Cinema, Nottingham Playhouse, and the University of Nottingham; Light After Dark Film Festival: Cinema of Dreams and Shadows is a film festival dedicated to immersive experiences in cinema. Pairing films with performance, music, technology, and art to give audiences a deep, intimate, and collective encounter with film. The festival will run from 25-27 March 2022 across the city and explores the idea of how we experience film and derive memories, understanding and experience from it. The festival will be about dreaming, together.

Events will include a screening of the Fritz Lang classic METROPOLIS (1927) with a live score from local band 8mm Orchestra at Broadway Cinema, FACADES, a unique film noir experience in Virtual Reality at Nottingham Playhouse, and a roundtable about how cinema (as ritual) is a medium for articulating dreams and accessing our unconscious with the University of Nottingham. On 26 March Nottingham Contemporary will host A NIGHT AT THE END OF THE WORLD. You are invited to a dream. It’s a club where chorus girls dance, old movies swirl above like memories, and fortunes are told. Drinks flow and music sways, but amidst the glitter there is sweet melancholy: the world ends at midnight.  Join us for an immersive and interactive cinematic experience that blends film, performance, live music, and other happenings.
