Anime Limited is seeking a Junior Licensing Manager
OBJECTIVES OF THIS ROLE
- Participate in and support the work of the contents team at Anime Ltd & Toho Europe across the value chain including licensing in and licensing out. Moving from support to a front-facing role over the first year of the job.
- Support the logistical work for the content team including approvals with key stakeholders in the acquisition process.
- Support the contents team from a licensing-out standpoint as well – learning & participating in the value chain of selling acquired content for both Anime Ltd and Toho Europe as applicable.
DAILY AND MONTHLY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate works: Read scripts / source material / watch works in progress & final works then draft succinct assessments the project’s creative and commercial potential.
- Rights management: Taking ownership of ensuring rights databases are up to date & coordinate with relevant stakeholders to make sure information is logged.
- Management of active licenses (inbound) Work closely with the Managing Director of Anime Ltd and Chief Content Officer of Toho Europe to keep track of all licenses and draft renewal proposals where necessary.
- Tracking offers: Manage project tracking & offer lists, keeping them up to date.
- New opportunity focus: Identify new producers and talent relationships.
- Festival & event prep: Organize and manage a tracking list of film titles ahead of each prominent film market i.e Berlin, Anime Japan, Cannes. Anime Expo and TIFFCOM
- Festival prep: Assist in setting meetings and managing the schedule during each film market.
- Research specific projects (e.g new media, audience trends etc) and write concise summaries of opportunities as they arise. Also look out for Event Cinema opportunities and be proactive in finding new partnerships
- Support outbound licensing functionality, observing decision making & negotiating and managing approvals with licensing partners.
- Network development: Attend screenings & events, write reports and meet new contacts.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS (required):
- Ability to speak, read, & write effectively in English at business level or higher
- Proven understanding of the licensing business and how to manage partners on a sales in and sales out basis.
- Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
- Effective communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Critical eye to content evaluation both on a creative and commercial basis.
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively in a small business environment with an emphasis on teamwork.
- Understanding of the film and television basis at a basic level commercially as well as creatively.
- Ability to live and work legally in the United Kingdom
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS (strongly desirable):
- At least 1-3 year’s experience in the acquisitions space for film & TV.
- Ability to speak, read, & write effectively in Japanese at business level or higher.
- Ability to speak, read, & write effectively in French at business level or higher.
- Active experience in the licensing business (acquisition of content from IP holders and/or sales out to platforms) in the film & television space.
- Active commercial experience in the Japanese animation & live action space.
- Understanding and proficiency in the following software packages: Mac OSX, Microsoft Excel, Airtable, Basecamp or similar project management software, Google Apps / Dropbox
