Head of Screen & Cultural Engagement

National Science and Media Museum

Bradford

Salary: £43,000 - £48,000

The National Science and Media Museum (NSMM) in Bradford are recruiting for a Head of Screen & Cultural Engagement to join them on a permanent basis.

About us

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures. As part of this world-leading collective, the National Science and Media Museum (NSMM) in Bradford explores the culture of image and sound technologies and their impact on our lives. Its exciting strategic vision will see it become an internationally recognised museum, while retaining a strong sense of place and relevance for its local communities.

Over the next few there will be huge cultural investment and activity in Bradford District, particularly driven by the opportunities offered by City of Culture 2025 and a renewed focus on the region’s screen industries. As such, NSMM must maximise these opportunities and ensure we play a significant role in key local and regional initiatives, ultimately attracting more people nationally and internationally.

To help to ensure we deliver our ambitions and maximise the legacy opportunities for the Museum and for Bradford, we are now recruiting for a Head of Screen & Cultural Engagement to join us on a permanent basis at the Museum.

About the role

In this role you will lead the Museum’s Screen Team, building on the existing programme of festivals to ensure an enhanced festival programme in 2025 that will grow and establish a new audience for the museum festivals and cinemas longer-term. You will champion the screen opportunities and lead new programmes that will engage new, diverse audiences and support early career film makers. You will build on the Council’s screen strategy and work with the Museum cinema team to evolve a Screen Strategy for NSMM which will grow our offer, develop diverse audiences for NSMM cinemas and develop opportunities to link to the sector, industry and communities.

About you

Joining us, you will hold experience of working within the screen industries (for example, film, TV or gaming). You will be able to create and champion clear ways of collaborating with external partners to enhance cultural programmes, and will be able to work with stakeholders and partners to develop and deliver distinct events in the Museum, city and region which build audiences and reputation. Bringing strong planning and project management skills along with a strategic and solutions-focused approach, you will be able to lead and motivate a team to deliver results and projects to deadline and within budget.

What we offer

Joining us as an employee, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group.  We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we offer up to 27 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; a support with personal and professional development; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; and enhanced support for things that happen in life such as parental and adoption leave, sickness and career breaks.

‘Open for All’ is one of the Science Museum Group’s five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. As a national museum group, we have an ability to reach a wide and diverse population of audiences, colleagues and partners through our geography and scale.

We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to foster a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation and ultimately will be able to inspire more futures. We therefore welcome applications from those who bring difference.
