Belfast Film Festival is seeking a Head of Programming to join their dynamic team.

Belfast Film Festival is a vibrant and energetic organisation which plays a central role in the cultural life of Belfast. We have delivered the annual Belfast Film Festival since 1995 and in 2018 we initiated a new event, Docs Ireland. The festival promotes a dynamic year-long programme of fiction and documentary film events that are entertaining, provocative and inclusive, attracting a diverse and growing audience. Belfast Film Festival also provides a platform to showcase the local industry and facilitate cultural debate.

  • Salary Based on NJC Scale: £30,451 (SO2) – £37,890 (PO3) – commensurate with experience. Employer’s Pension Contribution 6%.
About the role

Reporting to the Festival Director, the Head of Programming is responsible for curating the organisation’s annual programme, for devising and delivering film events; for fundraising activity to support the growth and development of the organisation; for supporting filmmakers and developing audiences during Festival time and as part of our year-round activity.

Together with the Festival Director, this role will involve setting targets and leading on the delivery of the organisation’s strategic plan.

The Head of Programming should bring their distinctive taste and knowledge to the organisation. They should help give the film festival a unique flavour, distinct from other festivals in the crowded film world.

Importantly, the successful candidate will have a specialist knowledge of film and of the UK, Irish and international film industry, as well as industry contacts and experience of developing partnerships, including working directly with filmmakers, distributors, sales agents, commissioners, funders, foundations and broadcasters.

The Head of Programming will be well-regarded in the industry and will represent the organisation at senior management level, including at international festivals and events, at public events and through mentoring where required at year-round projects / training initiatives.
