The BFI Film Academy is looking for a team of enthusiastic and committed volunteers to help deliver the Future Film Festival.

The Future Film Festival is our annual festival for aspiring filmmakers aged 16 to 25. Over the course of four days – from 17 to 20 February 2022 – the BFI plays host to a range of events and screenings that focus on helping aspiring talent break into the film industry, including panels and masterclasses with high-profile industry talent, networking opportunities and screenings of the best short films from young, emerging filmmakers. The festival attracts 1000+ young people every year.

We are therefore looking for individuals who have a strong interest in the screen industries and are looking to gain experience in an events, customer service, filming and editing content.

As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of festival support roles including: managing the festival ticket and information desk; looking after guest speakers and panellists; assisting with front of house requirements for events; serving refreshments in our networking areas, filming and editing content for our social media channels and supporting the successful running of festival events.

This is a great opportunity to learn how a busy festival is run and how events and screenings are delivered. You will also have the chance to enjoy various events at the festival and meet likeminded individuals with similar interest in the industry.

Main aims

Volunteers will assist the BFI Future Film Festival team in delivering events and screenings and give information to festival attendees and industry members involved in the festival. Volunteers will be expected to have a thorough knowledge of the full festival programme.

Key responsibilities

In your application form please let us know if you have any experience in events, customer service, technical production, social media, and/or filmmaking.

  • To act as a source of information and guidance to festival attendees from the festival information desk and throughout the building.
  • Direct customers to screening rooms, reception areas, ticketing points, and all BFI public areas.
  • Look after guest speakers and VIPs as instructed by the Volunteers Manager/BFI Events team.
  • Serve refreshments in our networking areas.
  • Assisting with the filming and editing of content for the Future Film Festival’s social media channels.
  • To undertake any other duties that may be required.
  • To me an ambassador for the BFI through maintain a professional and friendly approach at all times.
Hours

We will ask you to work 4 days of the festival (taking place between 17 and 20 February 2022) between the hours of 9:30am – 6:30pm. You will be provided with lunch and refreshments throughout the day and reimbursement of travel costs within zones 1-6.

Please note that this is an unpaid voluntary position and you must be over 16 years old to apply.
