Filmhouse (Edinburgh) Ltd is seeking a Finance Officer to play a key supporting role in the organisation’s financial function.

They are responsible for maintaining accurate and reconciled financial transactions on Xero accounting software; reporting; and providing support to the Finance Manager and the rest of the management team.  Responsible for all aspects of bookkeeping, updating databases, processing invoices and bills, coordinating payroll via an external service, and performing other administrative tasks when required.

Role responsibilities
  • Support the Finance Manager to ensure the smooth and effective running of Filmhouse’s finance and accounts operation.
  • Manage and maintain core financial activities in the organisation, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll (the latter via an external agency).
  • Carry out any other tasks necessary for the smooth running of the Finance function.
  • Ensure all systems and procedures are up to date and efficient.
  • Help manage the bank account and company Debit Cards, including making bank payments and account reconciliation.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, standard procedures and regulations.
  • Prepare financial reports, statements and records for internal and external stakeholders as directed by the Finance Manager.
  • Respond to financial enquiries.
  • Support the Finance Manager in preparing and filing tax forms and financial reports to regulatory
    authorities
Person specifications

Essential

  • At least 3 years’ experience as a finance administrator, bookkeeper or a related role.
  • Understanding of financial rules, regulations and policies.
  • Ability to reconcile accounts accurately and timely.
  • Proficient in accounting and bookkeeping software (e.g. Xero) and ideally approvals software (e.g.
    ApprovalMax).
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Experience in utilising proper processes to scrutinise departmental expenses.

Desirable

  • Experience in the Arts sector or Cinema sector.
