Sheffield Doc/Fest is inviting applications for the role of Festival Director.

Having recently celebrated its 25th edition as one of the world’s leading documentary festivals and marketplaces, Sheffield Doc/Fest is looking for a professional with the experience, expertise and creative vision to lead and develop the organisation going forwards. The chosen candidate will have a commitment to supporting documentary makers, developing new talent, and growing audiences for documentary.

Location: Primarily Sheffield based but will involve working in London

Sheffield Doc/Fest is an internationally renowned organisation presenting one of the world’s leading documentary festivals and marketplaces – celebrating the art and business of documentary and non-fiction storytelling across all platforms.

Having recently celebrated its 25th edition, Doc/Fest brings together the documentary family each June – comprising 3,500 industry delegates from 55 countries around the world and over 25,000 public audiences from across the UK. It also presents numerous touring programmes, special events and training initiatives throughout the year.

The Festival Director is responsible for leading the organisation, and for keeping it one step ahead of its international competitors. The chosen candidate will come with a vision for the artistic direction and development of the Festival and its programme going forwards. They will have a commitment to supporting documentary makers, developing new talent, and growing audiences for documentary. They will secure the financial health of the Festival and develop new sources of revenue and sponsorship. They will represent Sheffield Doc/Fest at national and international events, at meetings with stakeholders, and with the wider public through the media. They will inspire, lead and effectively manage the Festival’s 15 permanent and 50 temporary contractors, ensuring their effectiveness and well-being at all times.

We are looking for a visionary; someone not afraid to take risks and innovate. The chosen candidate will be a leader in the International documentary industry, having previously collaborated or worked with filmmakers, commissioners, funders, foundations and broadcasters. Applicants must be passionate about, and have an understanding of, feature documentaries, digital documentary formats and broadcast, with extensive industry contacts around the world.
