The Open City Documentary Festival sits within the Department of Anthropology at UCL, a research-led department with an international reputation, offering innovative teaching programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Open City Docs is dedicated to developing and supporting non-fiction storytellers. The organisation nurtures the next generation of filmmakers, audio producers and VR filmmakers through training programmes, an annual film festival, and other screening projects throughout the year.

We invite applications for a Festival Director who will be responsible for delivering a dynamic, inspiring and nurturing film festival in London each year. Together with the Founding Director and the Director of Programming, the post-holder will shape the annual festival responding to themes deriving from the character of current film production, the festival’s mission, audience and income targets. The post-holder will be involved in developing the operational and personnel capacity for the festival and work around the new cinema / other forms of public engagement that connect our educational and exhibition work to that of our new communities in East London. The Festival Director will put in place robust planning and processes for the organisational development of the festival and its related activities.
