We are searching for a driven individual with experience of managing a small team to successfully book in and deliver private hires and events, always ensuring that each event is professionally organised and maximises profitability.

Job Purpose

London’s largest independent cinema is looking for an energetic and dynamic Events
Manager. We are a 1,030 seat, five screen family-owned independent cinema in London’s
ever-changing East End, our site has been entertaining customers for over 120 years.
Alongside our general release and indie film program, we host a wide variety of events and
festivals, from poetry slams and comedy nights to major film festivals, always ensuring we
work closely with the local community. We are open 7 days a week, and, alongside our Cafe,
offer hot-desking space during the day. We have recently expanded even further by opening a new outside drinking and dining experience, The Yard.

Key responsibilities and duties

  • Line manager to the Events Admin Assistant and Events Coordinator – overseeing their roles and ensuring workloads are delegated according to role.
  • Taking each event from booking to delivery stage; liaising with collaborators,
    filmmakers and clients on the arrangements for each event; always ensuring their
    requirements are met.
  • Creating staff rota for Events team and liaising with General Manager on
    projectionist and wider staff rota for events.
  • Leading the Events Admin Assistant and Alternative Programme Manager on
    logistical and financial aspects of event ideas to ensure they are programmed at the
    best time, date and terms to make them successful and complimenting the general
    film programme.
  • Managing the delivery and testing of all events films and other audio-visual content.
  • Working closely with the cinema projectionists to ensure audio-visual requirements
    are met for every event.
  • Weekly team briefings with the management, events, alt programming, and the
    food & beverage departments to communicate upcoming events.
  • Creating schedules and event information sheets for each event to brief
    collaborators, clients and staff.
  • On the day event management including instructing staff and projection team on
    their role as part of the event and time keeping.
  • Pricing and providing quotes for private hires and services.
  • Producing Sales Orders and Event contracts for hires.
  • Producing Genesis’ in house film festival, Fragments.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Proven experience of event management, preferably in a film exhibition
    environment
  • Excellent organisational skills and time-management
  • Pro-active, able to take initiative with problem solving skills.
  • Proven experience of leading a team.
  • Ability to negotiate with clients while maintaining good working relationships.
  • Excellent attention to detail, reliable and conscientious.
  • Positive, flexible can-do attitude.
  • Good administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication in writing, in person and on the phone.
  • Adaptable with technology and enthusiasm ability to learn
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to discussion finances, with previous experience of doing so.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of digital cinema formats
  • Passionate about film and cinema
  • Experience of project management
  • Experience in film festivals, seasons or in a film exhibition venue
