Energy and Carbon Manager

British Film Institute

London

Salary: £46,362 - £54,762

The BFI are seeking an Energy and Carbon Manager to play an integral role in delivering on their commitments on environmental sustainability as set out in their ten year strategy, Screen Culture 2023-2033.

Fixed Term Contract: until 31 March 2026

The BFI is a multi-faceted and diverse operation; from a public cinema on London’s Southbank, to a specialist close-control film storage facility in Warwickshire and a multi-tenanted office off Tottenham Court Road. With this comes varying activity and plenty of opportunities for us to reduce our energy and the associated carbon. At each of our sites our aim is to be an exemplar in delivering our operations in the most efficient and low-carbon way.

We are therefore seeking an Energy and Carbon Manager to play an integral role in delivering on our commitments on environmental sustainability as set out in our ten year strategy, Screen Culture 2023-2033. Reporting to our Head of Facilities and working closely with our Senior Manager, Environmental Sustainability as well as teams across the organisation, this role will become familiar with our diverse activities, identify strategies and technologies and ultimately ensure that our operations are delivered sustainably and reduce our energy cost overheads.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of the BFI carbon reduction plan and assisting in the delivery of the BFI’s pathway to net zero ahead of the Government’s 2050 deadline.
  • Understanding the diverse operations across the BFI and engaging with other BFI departments to help them understand where they could reduce energy consumption.
  • Using monitoring tools to analyse, monitor and report on the energy usage and carbon emissions of the BFI sites to identify trends in energy use.
  • Keep up to date with energy initiatives to proactively identify and implement energy improvement and carbon reduction schemes and research opportunities for grants and other like schemes.
  • Managing and reporting against a utilities budget of £1.6M.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • A degree in engineering, building services, environmental management, energy or related subject, or equivalent substantial experience in energy and carbon management.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of MEP, including BMS systems, from a complex multi-site environment.
  • The ability to influence, negotiate and nurture productive relationships to deliver on outcomes and motivate colleagues to embrace energy efficiency programmes.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with the confidence to take full ownership of projects and deliver these to completion.

A full list of responsibilities and minimum requirements can be found in the job description.
