EIFF Curatorial Commission

Edinburgh International Film Festival

Edinburgh

Salary: £2,500 fee

Edinburgh International Film Festival is inviting three mid-career curators to present a programming response to a central theme and engage in a 1:1 Mentorship with a respected international curator.

About the Programme

This programme aims to amplify the voices of mid-career curators and programmers by asking them to respond to an annual theme or provocation. In 2022, our theme is the 50th Anniversary of the Women’s Film Festival.

In 1972, the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) presented the first global film event entirely dedicated to the cinematic achievements of female directors. Comprising works drawn from historical and contemporary cinema, The Women’s Film Festival was produced by a collective of three programmers – Claire Johnston, Lynda Myles, Laura Mulvey.

50 years later, there’s been an explosion of activity in the space of women’s film criticism, programming and advocacy being led by impressive creatives across the globe. However, overall representation in our industry, remains stubbornly low. To honour the spirit of the original Women’s Film Festival, the 2022 Edinburgh International Film Festival will once again, open its doors to independent collaborators to craft bold, political, and wildly celebratory responses to this landmark event, acknowledging the multiplicity and variety of feminisms within contemporary society.

EIFF 2022 will take place from Friday 12 to Saturday 20 August.
