London

Salary: £37,374 - £44,163

The BFI is looking to recruit a Curator of Contemporary Fiction Film, to be responsible for the research, acquisition, development and documentation of contemporary British fiction film and moving image in the BFI National Archive.

We are looking to recruit a Curator of Contemporary Fiction Film, to be responsible for the research, acquisition, development and documentation of contemporary British fiction film and moving image in the BFI National Archive.

About the role

The successful applicant will be an advocate for contemporary moving image fiction work. While primarily concerned with the acquisition of contemporary British fiction film for the BFI National Archive, the role will also include actively presenting and representing the collection within the BFI, to the general public, and to external partners including the film industry, academia and the media.

Working with the Senior Curator of Fiction, you will lead on world-class cultural outcomes from the collection using your expertise in contemporary British fiction filmmaking. Supported by the Senior Curators of Fiction and Non-Fiction, and by other curatorial colleagues, you will also lead in the development of the BFI National Archive’s position and strategies around videogames, VR, AR, immersive and interactive work.

The BFI collections policy requires the proactive acquisition of contemporary and recent British fiction feature films and short films, and ensures that collections and individuals highlighted in the BFI’s strategic acquisitions plan are prioritised. A particular priority is to ensure that work made by and representing the greatest diversity of UK communities – including ethnically diverse, LGBTQI, disabled and women filmmakers – are prioritised for acquisition and embedded in the cultural programme.

About the BFI

We support diversity and inclusion, and as an organisation recognise that we need to address under representation within our teams. As such we strongly welcome and encourage applicants from our under-represented groups; who identify as D/deaf and disabled and/or are ethnically diverse.

We guarantee a first interview to our under-represented groups who meet our minimum requirements. How we are doing, including our pay gaps and our commitment to Black Lives Matter can be found on our website.

The role is predominantly based at BFI Stephen Street, however, in response to the current Covid-19 pandemic all team members are currently working remotely from home until the foreseeable future.

You will enjoy benefits such as our pension scheme, excellent support for working parents, 28-33 days annual leave, tickets to BFI festivals and events plus many others.
