Curation Fellowship

Aya Films

Scotland (working remotely)

Salary: £1,728 fee (£9/hour, 8 hours/day)

With the support of Screen Scotland, Aya Films have created five film Curation Fellowships.

Dates: 24 May – 13 August 2021

Hours: Part time, 2 days per week

Level: No previous curation experience required.

Note: These paid Fellowships are aimed specifically at those who are marginalised due to race, gender, sexuality, age, class, or disability, and we encourage applications from those who identify as such.

Each Fellowship participant will undertake a 12-week course online, aimed at providing them with all they need to know for implementing their own film screening event. During the 12 weeks, they will work as a cohort and receive mentoring from professional film curators.

The Fellowships will be hosted through Curate-It, a new online curatorial learning app (mobile and desktop). Curate-It is an eight-step interactive programme through which participants will learn about film theory, film curation and the practical and logistical elements needed to create film events. The eight steps – Watch-it, Analyse-it, Curate-it, Finance-it, Market-it, Execute-it, Evaluate-it and Screen-it – consist of written information, activities, tailored reading lists and videos featuring industry experts sharing their knowledge and experience. At the end of the course, participants will have the opportunity to implement their own online screenings and events on Curate-It’s own video on demand (VOD) platform.

Note: Participants in this Fellowship will be gaining early access to the Curate-It app and will be paid to undertake the course and implement their events. Curate-It will then be rolled out more widely and will be available to the public on the app store from August 2021.

Eligibility

The role does not require any previous experience in film. Participants will work remotely, but all candidates must be based in Scotland. Curate-It has been developed with the aim of democratising access to film curation by moving curatorial learning to the digital space. These paid Fellowships are aimed specifically at those who are marginalised due to race, gender, sexuality, age, class, or disability, and we encourage applications from those who identify as such.
