Creative Technology Relationship Manager

British Council

Various (London, Cardiff, Edinburgh or Manchester)

Salary: £26,934 - £33,774 (plus £3,300 London Market Allowance if applicable)

The British Council is looking for someone to join their Film team as Creative Technology Relationship Manager.

About the role

After a successful pre-pandemic pilot exploring the potential relationship between Games/interactive media and the British Council’s arts and cultural relations programme, we’re now ready to start playing full time – and we’re looking for someone to help us do it.

The British Council is the UK’s cultural relations agency – we build trust between people in the UK and people everywhere else – and a big part of that programme involves the arts and creative industries.

This role will help develop long-term relationships with the UK’s creative technology sectors with specific grounding in film and screen based media – XR, generative AI, and gaming – and help design a programme that supports the UK’s players to internationalise, fostering an environment which encourages creative collaboration with international peers.

If this is you, you’ll be responsible for developing the British Council’s role as broker for the creative technologies sector internationally; you’ll work to further our role as a policy shaper, promoting the recognition and support of creative technology and gaming as vectors of British art and culture; and you’ll support international programme ideas working with colleagues in over 100 countries.

This is a fantastically exciting opportunity to activate and develop the British Council’s approach to creative technology; to explore how screen based media using new technologies from VR, AR, XR to AI, overlaps and intersects with conventional art forms; and to champion the dynamism of the UK’s creative technology sectors on the world stage.

What are we looking for?

Someone with:

  • in-depth knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the contemporary UK creative technology landscape
  • the ability to make critical judgements across different genres
  • the enthusiasm to explore the ways these rapidly evolving forms can play an ongoing part in the British Council’s cultural relations mission
  • an excellent network of current contacts across the UK creative technology sectors
  • a track record of delivering creative technology/gaming projects at varying scales, ideally internationally.
