Creative Technologist

Watershed

Bristol

Salary: £31,000 per annum

Watershed’s Creative Technologist works alongside the ICT team and Pervasive Media Studio residents to provide technical inspiration and support. The job requires someone with the ability to understand and inspire, listen and communicate, and invent and build to help brilliant ideas happen.

About you:

You will have the ability to understand and inspire, listen and communicate, invent and build to help brilliant ideas happen. You need to have a flexible, adventurous and collaborative approach to work.
There are no specific skills requirements: we build things using whatever technology is appropriate. Previously we’ve used Ruby, PHP, Javascript, Arduinos, Unity, React, openFrameworks, Processing, Raspberry Pis…

You will work as part of Watershed’s experienced and knowledgeable ICT team, and so you’ll always have others to bounce ideas off and discuss problems.

As long as you have a prototype-level understanding of coding – and are comfortable learning new languages/frameworks quickly – as well as some knowledge of hardware/electronics, then that’s fine. Knowing what building blocks are available is as important as knowing how to put them together.

About us:

Over the past 15 years Watershed has forged an unrivalled reputation for facilitating cross-disciplinary innovation at the intersection of culture, media and technology. Watershed and its Pervasive Media Studio work across the cultural and commercial sectors and produce projects which include gaming, projections, internet of things, location-based media, digital displays and new forms of performance. Our interest is in experience and interaction design. We test projects as early as possible and iterate.

The Pervasive Media Studio is a collaboration between UWE Bristol, University of Bristol and Watershed Arts Trust. We bring together academics, artists and businesses from across the creative and technology landscape and have hosted over 350 residents since opening in 2008. We have a great workspace, an open ethos and a can-do attitude.
