The BFI are looking for a Film Conservation Specialist to join a well-established team of professionals who examine, inspect, compare and technically identify and digitise collection materials, and ensure that they are accurately described and documented. Keeping the Archive’s collections database up-to-date is a crucial part of the role, in order for the work flow of acquisition, preservation, digitisation and access to collections to work effectively. You will be working closely with Archive Sales team to identify, accession, catalogue, prepare and digitise film materials while ensuring that appropriate best practices are upheld when preserving the collection.

The ideal candidate will possess a good knowledge of the issues relating to film conservation and preservation, either through relevant qualification or substantial relevant experience; including an understanding of the chemical processes involved in the manufacture and decay of motion picture film. Excellent working knowledge of CID, barcoding, the BFI’s holdings and curatorial and technical working procedures is a bonus. The successful candidate will be a well organised problem solver, with excellent attention to detail, who is able to prioritise and meet deadlines when working independently and as part of a team.

Based at BFI National Archive in Berkhamsted (nearest train station is Berkhamsted).
