Salary: £6,000 fixed fee

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival is seeking a Communications Manager to guide, initiate and develop conversations around the artists and filmmakers’ work featured in its 17th Festival this Autumn.

The successful candidate will join the organisation at an important stage of critical conversations around the ideas and values of the festival, its programming and how these discussions travel. They will not only play a key role in actively growing the Festival’s press and audience reach but will also support in deepening the understanding of the ethical considerations of marketing festival exhibition.

Working closely with the Festival Director and Manager, the Communications Manager is responsible for building sustainable relationships with new and existing festival audiences and critics during the edition this September.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate active experience and strong press networks in the UK and international ecologies of new cinema and artists’ moving image that the Festival sits within as well as innovative writing and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Communications

  • Communications planning and strategy
  • Writing announcements and website copy
  • Relationships with UK and international press
  • Partnerships with communities and organisations that represent priority audiences
  • After care and follow through of  all reviews and partnerships during and after the Festival

Digital Communications

  • Strategy for digital platforms in the lead up and during the festival period
  • Social media content and copy in a range of formats
  • Paid social media campaigns and adverts
  • Audience correspondence on digital and online platforms
  • Development of the accessibility of the festival’s digital platforms

Other

  • A comprehensive evaluation of the marketing for the festival edition 2021
Person Specification

Essential

  • Strong national and international networks within and beyond the film festival and visual arts ecology in which BFMAF operates
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with particular experience in writing press releases
  • Strong knowledge and experience of digital platforms including mailchimp, facebook, instagram and twitter
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and prioritise intensely varying workloads
  • Reliability, punctuality and a self-motivated approach to completing work
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, communicating with tact, sensitivity and diplomacy at all times
  • The ability to work closely, collaboratively and effectively with colleagues at a management level
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • A deep understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities
  • The ability to represent BFMAF to stakeholders in the UK and internationally

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of Filmchief or equivalent database software
  • Experience working in a small-scale arts organisation
