Cinema Technical Assistant
MediCinema
Newport
Salary: £10.93 per hour
MediCinema has an exciting opportunity for someone to help run their film screenings for children and families in South Wales.
About MediCinema
MediCinema is a national, registered UK charity that improves the wellbeing and quality of life of NHS patients, their families and carers through the power of the shared cinema experience and the magic of film. We achieve this by building and running cinemas in hospitals and places of care equipped with space for beds, wheelchairs and medical equipment, and providing free films (and activities) at bedsides for patients of all ages. Our services help to improve emotional, mental and physical health, reducing isolation, anxiety and stress, and increasing people’s ability to cope.
Our MediCinema in the Serennu Children’s Centre has been supporting the children and families who attend the centre since 2012. In partnership with the centre charity Sparkle, we offer free, accessible, autism-friendly film screenings of the latest releases in our bespoke cinema auditorium. The service offers our families a warm, welcoming and safe place for them to relax and have quality time together and enjoy cinema experiences and films they might not otherwise have access to. We know our service helps bring people together, reduces stress and isolation, builds emotional resilience and allows families to be part of a community.
The role
The post-holder will work closely with the MediCinema central office operations team, Technical Manager, our screening volunteers and the Sparkle team to prepare for and run successful film screenings each week.
We currently run two regular screenings each week on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings and are about to begin a six-month trial of a third weekly screening. The 8 hours will be worked flexibly and be agreed on a rota-basis, but it will generally be two 4-hour shifts each week.
The role offers a unique, exciting and extremely rewarding opportunity for someone interested in a service delivery role at the heart of our charity, involving direct contact with the children and families we support.
