Filmhouse is seeking four Cinema Duty Managers to ensure that the front-of-house cinema operation runs smoothly and supervise the cinema’s front-of-house team.
Reporting to the Cinema Manager, Duty Managers will manage the front-of-house team on shift and deliver excellent operational management and customer service to audiences. The ideal candidate will have prior supervisory experience in a busy cinema, arts venue, or hospitality environment, where the need to make sure that more than a dozen film screenings and events run to time each day must be balanced with creating a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for both audiences and staff. Key holding and other key licensing and statutory responsibilities will also be required.

Role responsibilities
- Direct line management of Filmhouse’s Front of House cinema team.
- Supervising all elements of customer service in the cinema, and leading by example when it comes to providing an exemplary experience for our audiences.
- Setting up and troubleshooting the cinema’s point of sale system during shifts.
- Full keyholder responsibilities including the daily opening, running, and closing of the building alongside all end of business closing duties (e.g. cashing up).
- Supervision of events (e.g. Q&As) taking place within cinema screens.
- Ensuring smooth communication between departments (bar team, projection, marketing, etc) during shifts to ensure the smooth running of cinema operations.
- Providing support to Filmhouse’s Cinema Manager in people and performance management, including recruitment and onboarding, reviews, and ongoing training and development.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety, data protection regulations, alcohol license conditions, the responsible sale of alcohol, and food safety.
- First Aid and Fire Marshal duties.
- Dealing with customer complaints and operational issues as they arise, making sure they are resolved appropriately, that all necessary procedures are followed and that all incidents are properly logged.
- Assisting with the development of cinema rotas and the effective management of stock.
- Assisting the cinema’s projection team in regards to technical presentation by ensuring that proper screen spot checks are carried out.
- Making sure that the front of house cinema team is properly briefed to be able to promote e.g. Filmhouse’s film programme, hospitality offer, membership scheme, etc, and otherwise provide excellent customer service while on shift.
- Being an exemplary ambassador for Filmhouse by creating positive experiences for audiences, venue partners, and your fellow staff.
- Undertaking any duties as reasonably requested by your line manager.
Person specifications
Essential
- At least two years’ experience in a busy customer service or hospitality environment.
- Some experience in supervision or people management.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Technically literate and able to utilise the cinema’s POS system.
- The ability to train and support staff.
- The ability to work flexible hours, especially evenings and weekends.
Desirable
- Experience in a similar role in a cinema or arts venue.
- An understanding of health & safety, food safety, and data protection policies.
- First aid trained.
- Fire warden trained.
- Personal license holder.
- An understanding of responsible sale of alcohol, liquor license conditions and codes of practice.
- A demonstrable passion for cinema and the arts.
- Knowledge and experience of POS platforms
