The Barbican Centre is one of Europe’s leading Arts venues, with our cinema showcasing the best international new releases, delivering major curated seasons, hosting international film festivals, facilitating talks with filmmakers, and leading in the presentation of the performing arts on screen.

The Barbican Cinema programme invests in the artists of today and tomorrow building a platform for independent directors and working with a variety of international film festivals and arts partners. We showcase the work of young programmers and filmmakers and collaborate with the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Cinema team for a passionate and creative Cinema Curator, to lead on the programming, planning, production and coordination of films, festivals and seasons. The Barbican Cinema programme pushes boundaries, provokes discussion, engages with cinematic histories, evolving film cultures and timely world issues, and celebrates its cross-arts environment.

Do you have a proven interest in and knowledge of cinema and contemporary developments in the film industry and audiences, both in the UK and internationally? Are you confident in developing partnerships with external organisations? Are you confident instigating and contributing to ideas that push forward the strategic development of the Cinema programme?

We are looking for someone with previous demonstrable experience of curating a cinema programme, with a particular understanding of arts programming and season planning. You will have an excellent working knowledge of film and cinema history and contemporary developments, with experience in initiating, planning and delivering cinema events, such as curated screenings and Q&As.

You will have an understanding of, and passion for the Barbican Centre as an institution, along with the Barbican’s artistic and Creative Learning strategy and programme. You will be able to work collaboratively with the Creative Learning Film & Cross Arts Curator, ensuring that the Creative Learning strategy underpins the cinema programme.

We want someone with a real passion for cinema and film, and a flair for effectively liaising and communicating with people.
