Spinners Mill Cinema is looking for a Business Development Manager to join their team.
Overview
Leigh Film C.I.O. at Spinners Mill Cinema aims to deliver lasting change and create a climate where
cross-sector partnerships and collaboration drive the development of a sustainable film offer in the
Leigh (and Wigan) area(s), with a focus on social isolation, mental health and work for, with and by
children and young people. Spinners Mill Cinema (our new permanent home) aspires to create a
venue that serves as a focal point for the local community, not only in engagement through film but,
through a wider range of art forms, and meeting place. The venue comprises one cinema screen and
bar. The project is set up by a charitable trust, Leigh Film C.I.O.
- Contract: Fixed term 12 months (with extension, funding dependent)
- Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week, flexible working
Role purpose
The role of Business Development Manager is to supervise and lead operations and income generation.
Performing a range of tasks to ensure productivity and efficiency including implementing business
strategies, evaluating performances and supervising employees and volunteers.
- To be responsible for the overall leadership and management of Spinners Mill Cinema including
operations, promotion, development and staffing; ensuring that the cinema provides excellent
customer service whilst achieving business, income, financial and operational targets. - To research, plan and implement appropriate annual business and marketing plans for Spinners
Mill Cinema, ensuring the establishment of appropriate targets increasing audiences, focussing on
inclusivity etc. for income generation and usage and a balanced programme of use. - To assist the Charity to achieve its targets and objectives, particularly in the areas of cinema
attendance and participation. - To effectively and efficiently pursue and implement a continuous improvement strategy, which
will include following the principles for Quest, Investors in People or other quality systems. - To develop an effective community involvement process and work with community partners to
provide a comprehensive approach to community engagement. - To assist the Charity in the development of productive partnerships within Wigan Borough Council
and surrounding areas within Greater Manchester. - To undertake specific responsibility for the efficient and effective delivery of services with key
focus on providing a quality product / service in a safe and friendly environmental. - To undertake any other duties, as requested by the Board of Trustees that are commensurate
with the job title and grade of the post.
Responsibilities and duties
- Management of staff and volunteers ensuring their duties are carried out accordingly
- Monitoring of KPI’s recording and preparing reports for funders and board
- Communicate effectively with the Spinners Mill Cinema Box Office ahead of time to ensure
appropriate staffing levels are in place to support events - Manage face to face and telephone enquiries effectively
- Manage invoices and other administration accurately and on time
- Develop and maintain systems for budget monitoring with an overview of events and costs
- Environmental and social sustainability is key to our ethos and you will embrace this
wholeheartedly. You will embed our sustainability strategy into your operational procedures
and support with its on-going development. - To manage outreach projects such as the Turnpike Centre, Leigh Parish Church and future
venues. This will involve liaising with partners and venues. - Establish strong links with community organisations
- Expand our field of operations i.e. Heritage , Parent & Child, Autistic screenings, silent films,
documentary, environmental screenings - To Implement Leigh Film C.I.O. business plan 2020 – 2025
- To ensure high standards of film, disc, digital and AV presentation and to ensure the highest
possible care of screening materials (prints, tapes, discs etc.) - Implement Leigh Film C.I.O. policies, in particular those around diversity and access.
- Follow BFI Diversity guidelines
- Ensure Leigh Film C.I.O. I.T. and social media platforms are maintaining to a high standard
- To devise, implement, monitor and review marketing campaigns and programmes to
generate increases in income and participation. - To submit funding bids to ensure the cinema is sustainable and maintained.
Essential skills and experience
- 3 years’ experience in business, management, or related field and leading projects/delivery of
a similar scale - Strong capabilities with database and information systems software
- Proven ability with financial and budgetary processes
- Prior experience of business, bid writing, income generation and supervision of staff
- Well-developed time management skills and excellent planning and organisational skills
- Ability to deal with conflicting deadlines, complex projects and multiple partners
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrable commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion, and their practical
application and integration in the work environment. - Passion for the cultural sector and supporting the development of film culture in the North
