Documentary Programmer

Salary: Fixed fee: £750

London Short Film Festival has an opening for a Documentary Programmer.

Reporting to the Festival Director and working to the vision of the Artistic Director, this role will help deliver a selection of documentary films which fit the profile, character and ethos of the 10 day long, 16th edition of the London Short Film Festival (11 – 20th Jan 2019).

As a freelance member of the team, you will be responsible for your own hours during the duration of the contract – London Short Film Festival aim to operate a flexible work policy wherever possible.

Job description:

• Identify sources of short form documentary and factual content for LSFF 2019;
• Work with a team of dedicated pre-selectors to identify and shortlist suitable submissions from the pool of Official Festival Submissions gathered through our submissions partner Film Freeway.
• Liaise with the Festival Director and Artistic Director to help guide the thematic direction of the 2019 documentary programme;
• Work with the wider Festival Team to help meet organisational goals on diversity, inclusion and representation within selected content;
• Administration of the above, and updating the relevant records and files.

Minimum person specification:

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience working with the documentary form. They will be able to engage in informed debates, articulating the qualities of, and problems with proposed content, demonstrating an appreciation of a diverse range of work.

Desirable:

Experience in festivals or related environments where curatorial knowledge of factual moving image content is a consideration. Experience working directly with short form documentary is an advantage, but not essential.

With the appropriate support, there is scope for the successful candidate to become more involved with programming documentary led Festival Events, which would be additional to this role.
