A woman in her sixties, Yang Mija (Yun Jeong-Hee) works as a carer for a disabled man and raises her grandson alone. While enduring the terrifying onset of Alzheimer’s disease, she learns that her grandson was one of the attackers of a junior high school girl who later committed suicide.

Throughout all of this, and to fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming a writer, Yang Mija joins a poetry class and begins to set her thoughts down on paper.

Winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, Lee Chang-dong’s follow-up to the acclaimed Secret Sunshine is a masterful study of the subtle empowerment and moral integrity of an older woman who refuses to give up on life.
