David McKenzie (Young Adam, Hallam Foe) changes direction with a tough prison drama shot in a real Belfast gaol.

Eric Love (former Skins star Jack O’Connell) is a borderline psychotic juvenile admitted into an adult prison for which he would normally be considered too young. However he’s been ‘starred up’ for his uncontrollable violent behaviour.

On arrival the prison system does its best to break him down with strip searches and solitary confinement. Eric reacts with ever increasing violence placing him on a collision course with the more established prisoners who run the system from within, and particularly his long-term incarcerated father.

It’s a gritty, frightening, claustrophobic film which provocatively examines prison life positioning itself somewhere between Scum and A Prophet.
