This intelligent, heartfelt film observing sibling relationships is full of talent, from Lynn Shelton’s confident direction to the really lovely performances from stars Emily Blunt, Rosemarie DeWitt and Mark Duplass.

Blunt plays Iris, who sends her best friend Jack (Duplass) to her family’s remote holiday cabin for a restorative break. He’s still mourning the death of his brother, also Iris’s ex, a year previously; and is emotionally very volatile. Iris’s sister Hannah (DeWitt) is already at the cabin. She’s fresh out of a seven-year relationship and when Jack arrives they end up sharing wounds, drinking too much, and taking things too far. But in the morning, Iris arrives unexpectedly. Should they tell her? How would she react? And what would that mean?

Intimate, involving and authentic, Your Sister’s Sister boasts great characterisation, bold directorial choices and excellent naturalistic dialogue; and was one of the most talked-about titles at Toronto.
