The award-winning Galeri Creative Enterprise Centre is a vibrant mixed arts centre located on Victoria Dock in Caernarfon (n.Wales) overlooking the Menai Straits. Since its 2005 opening the venue has run a mixed-arts programme, sharing the theatre and cinema space. This has seen the centre reach a crossroads where it’s impossible to develop the artistic or cinema provision. Following over five years of planning, a new dedicated 2 screen (circa 120 seats and 70 seats) cinema will open its doors on-site during Summer 2018, forming north west Wales’ only independent cinema multi-screen facility.
The film programme offers a diverse selection of genres for all audiences. Galeri run the annual PICS Film Festival – a festival for children and young people predominately that also showcases short films created by children, young people and adults (in Welsh or with no language). Other regular features are the monthly £1 ‘sgrin am sgrin’ film screenings (‘sgrin’ is slang for £1 in Caernarfon and also translates as a ‘screen’), with the films selected by Galeri’s audiences. Galeri are also an active member of the Film Hub Wales supported ‘Off y Grid’ project (wherein 8 north Wales independent cinemas collaborate to bring ‘new cinema experiences’ to the area) and as a social enterprise, play an important role in contributing to local economic, social, cultural and physical regeneration.
