Senior Programme Manager Film

Salary: £32,424

This is a vital role which plays a leading part in the development and management of the British Council’s increasing film portfolio, making sure that film and media plays a strategic role in the organisation’s cultural relations work. Deputising for the Director of Film when necessary, you’ll work closely on the development and implementation of our film strategy together with a lively team of six Programme Managers; you will lead on liaising and building partnerships with other British Council programme teams in the UK and globally; you’ll manage relationships with key external UK partners; and you will lead on the development and management of major film programmes that involve multiple regions while also advising at least one region on their local film programme.

Increasingly involved in developing strategies and partnerships to enable the Film programme to prosper despite reducing grant levels, you will have experience of partnership/sponsorship relationships, a comprehensive network of current senior contacts across the film industry, an extensive knowledge of British film and the ability to make critical judgements across genres. You might have a background in programming, journalism, production or exhibition, but you will understand the diplomacy involved in mounting international programmes – and you’ll be excited by the challenge of making international connections for the UK film sector. Most importantly, you’ll be a persuasive communicator, able to excite others about the possibilities of using film as a tool for cultural relations.

As with most of the other team members, this is designed as a part-time position, working 4 days per week, in order to ensure that the successful candidate remains actively involved in the film industry alongside their work with us.
