Tyneside Cinema

Newcastle

Salary: Unpaid (travel expenses)

Tyneside Cinema is looking to appoint new Trustees to their board.

About Tyneside Cinema

Tyneside Cinema is one of Newcastle’s most valuable cultural institutions. Situated at the heart of the city, it is the only independent cinema of scale in the region. The building offers four screens, an award-winning learning programme, moving image art and three public bar, dining and café spaces.

Tyneside Cinema is a community, with film at the heart of everything we do. We believe in the power of film to facilitate empathy; as a way to challenge and transport us through the stories of lives we haven’t led, into places we’ve never been. In the setting of our beautiful 1930’s newsreel theatre, we hope to create a space that reflects this potential in film to engage and relate new ideas, experiences and stories.

As an organisation, we have faced very difficult challenges in the last two years. Now that all recommendations from our recent independent review have been implemented or are in action, we are looking to the future and setting in motion plans to broaden our outreach through our diverse film programme and engagement projects, as well as building our guest experience to be the most welcoming and inclusive possible.

We are looking for new Trustees who can share their experience to support us in our mission and are keen to develop our Board with individuals as committed as we are to the bright future of Tyneside Cinema.

About the Role

Our Trustees hold responsibility for Tyneside Cinema’s performance and culture as well as ensuring that it complies with all legal and regulatory requirements. The Board works in consultation with staff, volunteers and beneficiaries to lead on our values, vision and strategic direction.

Tyneside Cinema is very keen to work towards a more diverse Board of Trustees. We particularly welcome applications from people with experience that is currently under-represented on our Board including those from Black, Asian and minority groups or from the LGBTQIA+ community, those with disabilities or people from different socioeconomic backgrounds. We also welcome applicants with unconventional work experience, including those who have not been Trustees before.

This role is available to those living outside of the North East of England (but within the UK) and we will support travel expenses.

In this recruitment round we are particularly (but not exclusively) interested to hear from people with experience in the following areas:

  • Film and Cinema
  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Accountancy
  • Financial management
