Phoenix, East Finchley, is looking for a Technical Manager to join their team on a part-time basis.
Job Purpose Summary
- To act as the cinema chief projectionist and technician and prepare films and other content as required for screenings, hires and events, in accordance with the cinema’s timetable.
- To ensure that technical presentation at the cinema is to the highest possible standards.
- To be a main point of contact for hires and special events and to ensure the technical aspects of those events are overseen from start to finish
- To work in direct partnership with the manager on duty to oversee and run special events from start to finish help deliver an excellent all-round experience to audiences
- To communicate effectively with the cinema team to ensure that the cinema operates efficiently at all times.
- To be responsible for monitoring heating, lighting and ventilation in the auditorium.
- To suggest and develop new systems and improvements to the existing set up.
- Securely opening and closing the building, being a keyholder and contactable in the case of emergency
Responsibilities
Main duties
- Showing films and other content in accordance with the cinema’s timetable and to the best possible standards of presentation.
- Maintaining and caring for projection, sound and other audio visual equipment to ensure that it is operating safely and to its optimum technical capacity.
- Preparing films and other content for screenings in a timely manner, with due care to avoid damaging material; securing films and other content to avoid opportunities for film theft.
- Presentation and dispatch of 35mm films when required.
- Preparing films and other content for transport and sourcing of KDMs from distributors, well in advance of screenings
- Training other cinema staff in how to use projection and sound equipment to be able to screen material to high standards of presentation. Providing such other training as is required to enable others to manage their projection duties in your absence.
- Undertaking general cinema maintenance tasks including changing light bulbs, ad hoc repairs and front-line maintenance to building systems and taking Health and Safety responsibility for the projection areas.
- Alerting the Executive Director about projection technical issues that you are unable to resolve and the Operations Manager about building maintenance issues that you are unable to resolve.
- Providing a professional service to third party hirers of the venue.
- Assisting with technical needs for live music, comedy and performance events
- Keeping well informed of technical developments in the industry and advising the Executive Director on any technical improvements.
- Keeping the projection room, projection office and storage areas clean and tidy at all times.
Health and Safety
- Being familiar and complying with current Health & Safety regulations relevant to the industry and to keep abreast of changes to such regulations.
- To be aware of the appropriate safety procedures in the event of an emergency (fire, security etc).
General
- Liaising directly with the front of house and management teams to enable the cinema to operate efficiently.
- Undertaking any other duties which may be reasonably requested of you for the effective functioning of the cinema and projection rooms.
- Attending weekly team meetings.
- To undertake appropriate training and professional development as determined by the Executive Director.
