The BFI is seeking two Software Developers to join its Digital Products team.

Located in the BFI’s newly formed Technology & Digital Transformation department, and working with colleagues across the organisation, these two roles will play a crucial role in building BFI digital products and services.

One role will focus on development of the BFI’s core web presence at https://bfi.org.uk, working as part of a dedicated product team and with a wide range of different BFI departments.

The other role will focus on building out our platforms to deliver access to BFI National Archive digital collections and associated rich information assets, collaborating closely with colleagues in the BFI’s Knowledge & Collections teams.

We work in small product-focused teams, using agile development techniques to build iteratively and incrementally with frequent feedback from users and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • To produce high quality software, applying robust software engineering practices.
  • To integrate with third party services and platforms as required.
  • To deploy working and tested code into staging and production environments, writing tests, deployment scripts and manifests as needed.
  • To participate in project scoping work and decision-making relating to overall technical architecture and approach.

Skills & experience 

  • Significant demonstrable experience in the development and delivery of web applications.
  • In depth knowledge of web development languages and frameworks with a demonstrable ability to learn new technologies quickly. The BFI’s technology stack includes PHP, Laravel, Drupal, Javascript and React.
  • Experience developing applications backed by systems such as MySQL / MariaDB and Elastic.
