The BFI seeks a Senior Curator of Television to join the BFI National Archive’s Curatorial department on a permanent basis.
This is a key role in the BFI’s Programme directorate, comprising the BFI National Archive, BFI Southbank, London Film Festival, Sight and Sound, Distribution and Blu-ray/DVD teams.
Key responsibilities
- To be the BFI’s lead advocate and accountable for the television collection of the BFI National Archive, including being a high profile member of the BFI’s ‘Programme’ directorate and actively presenting and representing the collection within the BFI, to the general public and to external partners including broadcasters, the broadcasting regulator, academia and the media.
- In accordance with the BFI collection policy, to develop and lead on an agreed programme of contemporary and other acquisitions into the BFI National Archive.
- To develop the Collections Development Plan and Stakeholder Plan on an ongoing basis and ensure that collections and individuals highlighted in them are prioritised and targets monitored.
Minimum requirements
- Educated to degree level or a demonstrable level of equivalent experience and knowledge.
- An authoritative knowledge of, and proven track record in, one or more key areas of British television history and of the contemporary British television industry. You will also have a broad and deep knowledge of and enthusiasm for a wide range of historic and contemporary British television.
- Extensive contacts across the contemporary TV industry.
