The BFI is looking for a Rights & Contracts Manager to join the BFI’s Rights & Contracts department.
The Rights & Contracts Manager will work to meet the developing needs of the BFI across multiple areas including rights research, management, clearance, acquisitions, restoration projects, distribution, new ventures, and as directed by the Head of Rights & Contracts.
Role details:
- Part-time (24.6 hours/3 days per week)
- Fixed-term until April 2025
Role responsibilities:
- Research, advise and report with regard to BFI owned or controlled, and third-party, film rights and clearances, including contributor rights and under guild and union agreements, and implications and applicability of copyright laws.
- Assist with negotiations where required. Prepare summaries and reports as required.
- To maintain accurate rights information in the BFI’s rights management systems, including deal entry and working with all team members, Royalty Accounting, and other BFI divisions as required.
- To assist with the on-going development of the BFI’s rights management system, to enhance functionality in line with business needs and integration with systems across the BFI to support and facilitate the BFI’s activities.

Person specifications:
- Substantial training in one or more areas directly relevant to the role for example in copyright law, contract law, film distribution.
- Excellent legal drafting skills.
- Demonstrable experience in negotiating and drafting rights sales, distribution or acquisition agreements.
- Significant experience in film or television rights management in an ‘in-house’ legal, business affairs, contracts, or equivalent department in a film, television or distribution company or sales agent.
