The BFI is looking for a Records Reviewer, an exciting new role based within the BFI’s Records and Information Governance team, in the Knowledge, Learning and Collections directorate.
If successful, you will report directly to the Head of Records and Information Governance, whilst building and maintaining relationships with colleagues across all teams.
We are looking for an archive and records professional to conduct a thorough disposition review, liaising with content owners, to identify material either of archival value, inside of current retention policies, and for disposal.
You will have the unique opportunity to work with the BFI’s institutional records and gain insight into the day to day running of our complex organisation. Working to tight deadlines and targets, you will sensitively review legacy material with content owners, ensuring the BFI retains a comprehensive record of its institutional history, whilst reducing redundant, obsolete, and trivial information.

Role responsibilities
- Coordinate a review of legacy records, against targets and budgets, set by the Head of Records and Information Governance
- Conduct appraisals in accordance with BFI Records Management policies and through consultation with the Head of Records and Information Governance and internal stakeholders
- Create a detailed inventory of material reviewed, and where applicable, prepare finding aids
- Make disposition recommendations, with an outcome of either disposal, further retention, or permanent preservation

Person specifications
We are looking for someone who understands what records and archives work entails and is a fast learner, keen to get to know the BFI and its history. Appraisal will require sensitivity, accuracy, and attention to detail. You will also need to be able to communicate well and establish good working relationships with colleagues across the BFI. Working autonomously, you will have the confidence to make day-to-day decisions in your work within the framework of existing policies and standards.
- Qualification in archives administration and records management OR relevant work experience of working in an archives and records management environment
- Experience of working with record-keeping systems and structures in an archives or records management environment and archival cataloguing
- Demonstrable practical experience of conducting records appraisals and use of retention schedules, working with different record series and file formats, both physical and digital
- Experience of handling and analysing large volumes of data on a complex project, against tight deadlines
- Experience of successfully working with different stakeholders to encourage and drive change to procedures and ways of working, including through internal engagement initiatives.
