London Indian Film Festival is looking for a Project Manager for their October Festival.

About LIFF

London Indian Film Festival Ltd (LIFF), with Manchester Indian Film Festival (MIFF) and Birmingham Indian Film Festival (BIFF) are together UK and Europe’s largest Indian film festivals.

We also premiere Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Nepali and Sri Lankan films and British Asian films, gaming and XR. Over the last 11 years, we have garnered a reputation as the ‘punk rock of Indian film festivals’, presenting a cutting-edge selection of the very best new independent cinema from the Indian subcontinent. We opened in Manchester in 2021 and despite covid challenges, the festival was well received by local communities, and partners and last year helped the overall festival win ‘Best Live Event 2022’ at the Asian Media Awards, in Manchester.

About the role

Contract: August – November 2023 (part-time, flexible, in-person and remote working)

Hours: The role is expected to be approximately 2 days a week until and then full-time 2 October – 7 November, and then 1-2 days a week until the end of November, or until festival production, evaluation and reports are completed.

Fee: £4,000 plus reasonable expenses

The Manchester Project Manager will be expected:

  • To liaise with the overall Festival Producer and Festival Director to develop a plan for the scheduling of the Manchester festival and monitor this plan in terms of delivery;
  • To initiate discussions and relationships with existing and new venue partners in Manchester and liaise with these partners on the organisation of the festival through to delivery of the festival including Manchester Metropolitan University, cinemas and gaming organisations and community partners;
  • To secure screening permissions/certifications for the festival from Council in good time before tickets go on sale;
  • To develop and sustain ongoing relationships with targeted communities and identify new community partners;
  • To work with the festival’s central Marketing and Manchester-based PR consultant to help in the successful delivery of the festival’s marketing objectives especially with regard to the interface between the venues and the Festival’s marketing/PR team;
  • To ensure that the reputation of the festival is upheld in terms of high-quality delivery and clear communication with partners, ensuring future goodwill;
  • To attend regular meetings of the core festival team (mainly by Zoom and occasionally in person);
  • To present any expense claims in a clear manner with receipts attached, no later than one month after the festival end date;
  • To report to the Festival Producer any issues or problems with partners in a timely manner;
  • To undertake any other reasonable responsibilities with regards to this role;
  • To work with the Producer to help manage the volunteers for the Manchester-based events;
  • Assist the producer with the travel itineraries for the guests and guest liaison once they are in Manchester.
Person specification
  • At least 12 months proven Project Management experience working within a cinema, film festival or other cultural venues.
  • Must be based in the Manchester catchment area.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as high-level interpersonal skills.
  • A self-starter with organisational and administrative skills including numeracy, literacy and fluency with office IT.
  • High attention to detail, can manage own work-flow, and confidential or sensitive information. Can work flexibly by managing the changing task priorities and problem shoot.
  • Proven Budget management experience, maintaining updating spend via an Excel spreadsheet.
  • Demonstrated ability and tools to organise workload, use electronic communication systems and email, plus manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • An energetic approach to and understanding of the need for communication with a wide range of partners, stakeholders, teams and internal and external colleagues.
  • Proven passion for film exhibition and moving image.
  • Can work evenings and weekends as part of the job role commitment.
  • Awareness of South Asian culture/film culture is an advantage, but not essential.
  • Awareness of UK South Asian minority communities eg. Deaf, LGBTQIA+, language groups, an advantage, but not essential.
