Project Facilitator (Freelance)

The Place Bedford

Bedford

Salary: £1,000 fee

The Place Bedford is seeking a facilitator/youth leader.

This short-term contract is an opportunity for an experienced or new facilitator/youth leader to train and support a group of 16-25-year-olds on their journey into film programming and event management. You will follow our short course structure and tailor it to meet the needs of the individual participants and individual venue plan.

The project will be led by yourself, with support from the venue team at The Place Bedford who are starting out with their community outreach and keen to learn from an experienced facilitator. Within a structured programme of sessions there will be opportunities for the right applicant to explore their own interests, develop their skills and work to their strengths.

The role requires:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the film exhibition industry and the skills needed to be a successful film programmer – experience of film programming for a cinema is desirable but not essential
  • Following our course structure, but adding your own activities and resources where appropriate
  • Being flexible in responding to the needs and interests of the group, tailoring content and ensuring participants are engaged and learning new skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Complying with our Safeguarding Procedures and Training
  • Liaising with venue and staff team
  • Leading the facilitation of up to 15 sessions in venue and/or online
  • Providing progress updates to venue and YFP Network Manager
  • Current DBS check

We welcome applications from new and experienced facilitators or youth leaders with a good understanding of how to work best with groups of young people. Previous experience of working in film exhibition is less important than proven expertise in interactive and inclusive youth facilitation. We welcome applicants who have previously led youth-production projects and have experience of film-making with young people.

Fee

£1,000 for 15 sessions (includes venue liaison time and planning time – a range of sample frameworks, session plans and resources will be available).

Travel expenses may be available depending on your location and circumstances.
