Encounters are looking for a Marketing and Communications Manager to join their team.

At a moment of huge change and opportunity across the film industry, we are seeking
someone with exceptional written communication and marketing skills, an inspiring creative
vision and ambition to join our team in the role of ‘Marketing and Communications Manager’.

You will
  • Represent Encounters and raise brand awareness locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Develop and implement a clear long-term marketing communications and PR strategy and vision for Encounters and its year-round programme.
  • Working with CEO to plan marketing communications and public relations strategies for the Festival and lead on their implementation, in order to; build and sustain the Festival audience and reputation, generate income and engage the wider general public in the understanding and importance of short film in the wider film industry ecology.
  • Effectively communicate with and market to artists, filmmakers, distributors, archives, the general public and funders where necessary, to ensure our charitable mission and vision are shared and we are able to diversify our income streams.
  • Build and lead an advisory communications team through trustees, artists we work with and young talent to assist in the curation of all Encounters communications activity so that it responds to our needs and those of our audiences.
  • Identify needs for seasonal recruitment and manage the workflow and oversee output of freelancers, work placements and interns.
  • Play an active role in Encounters strategic planning.
  • Manage marketing communications and PR budgets and ensure targets are met.
  • As a key member of the Encounters team, to contribute towards team working and project leadership.
  • Inspire, motivate, and enthuse staff within the organisation, celebrating our successes and encouraging ambition and achievement.
  • Ensure the financial stability and future viability of the organisation by contributing to and developing the fundraising strategy.
  • Contribute to evaluations and reporting to stakeholders.

Essential skills & experiences

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a marketing communications and/or PR role.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Extensive experience of writing copy for websites, articles and publications.
  • Experience of successfully developing and implementing a marketing and communications plan.
  • Experience of managing and delivering a wide variety of online and offline marketing communications campaigns and initiatives.
  • Experience of website management using CMS systems.
  • Experience of producing persuasive and concise copy writing and proof reading for a range of media outlets, from national publications to local parish magazines; broadcast video production; photography (press, documentary, portrait and editorial).
  • Advanced knowledge of Mailchimp, Google Analytics and Social platforms (including schedulers)
  • Comfortable to working to tight timescales and budgets.

Desirable skills & experiences

  • Previous experience/understanding of fundraising preferable.
  • Knowledge of Bristol’s cultural sector.
  • Experience and expertise in the creation of cause-related marketing, communications, PR, Television and social media campaigns.
  • Experienced user of Photoshop or in-design
  • Experience of film exhibition, events or festivals
  • Experience of collaborating with design and PR agencies
  • Experience of the video production & editing process
  • Experience of acting as a spokesperson for the organisation e.g. public speaking and radio interviews
